Photo to Statue: What It Costs, What Sizes You Get, and How Long It Takes
You have a photo you want to keep. Not on a phone, not in a cloud folder, but on a shelf where you can see it. That is what a 3D printed photo statue does, and this post answers the three questions everyone asks before ordering one: what does it cost, what size do I get, and how long does it take.
We print these ourselves at VR1 Prints in Kowkoor, Secunderabad. No outsourcing, no middleman. Here is exactly how it works.
What a photo statue actually costs
Our custom photo bust is priced at ₹3,499. That is the published price for the standard size, and it is the same price whether you are in Secunderabad or ordering from anywhere in India.
For that you get:
- Your photo turned into a 3D model
- The piece printed in PLA+
- Hand sanding and hand painting after printing
- A finished piece that is genuinely one of a kind
We do not add a "design fee" on top. If you want a different size to the standard, we quote that separately, because print time and painting time both change with size.
The size range: 10 cm to 50 cm
Our photo busts run from 10 cm keepsakes up to 50 cm centrepieces. That is a wide range, and picking the right end of it matters more than people expect.
Small, around 10 to 15 cm. Best for a desk or a bedside shelf. These are personal and you look at them close up. Detail reads well at this size because you are close to it.
Medium, around 20 to 30 cm. The most common choice. This suits a bookshelf, a console table or a display cabinet.
Large, around 40 to 50 cm. A mantelpiece or a centrepiece where the piece is meant to be seen from across a room. At this size the silhouette matters more than fine facial detail, and the print time goes up sharply.
Tell us the size you have in mind and we will quote it properly rather than guessing on your behalf.
How long it takes
Most photo statues take 5 to 8 days. That is longer than our standard 2 to 4 day turnaround, and the reason is simple: the print is only part of the job. Sanding and hand painting are what turn a printed shape into something worth keeping, and those steps cannot be rushed.
We confirm your date in writing before you pay. If your date is too tight, we will tell you on the first message rather than taking the order and disappointing you later.
What makes a good source photo
This is the single biggest factor in how good the finished piece looks. The printer works from the geometry of the face, so anything that hides that geometry costs you detail.
Send us:
- A clear, front-facing or near-front photo
- Even lighting, so features are not lost in shadow
- Sharp focus on the face rather than the background
- A few angles if you have them, which helps us get the profile right
Avoid:
- Sunglasses, which hide the entire eye area
- Heavy filters or beauty modes, which smooth away the structure the print depends on
- Very low resolution, or a photo where the face is small in the frame
- Group photos where we have to guess which person you mean
If you are unsure, send two or three options on WhatsApp and we will tell you which one will print best.
What the surface will look like
We print using FDM, which builds a part layer by layer. That means visible layer lines are normal on a printed surface. On a statue, the sanding and painting steps are what manage that, and they are why a hand-finished piece costs more than a raw print.
We will tell you honestly what the finished surface will look like before you commit, not after.
